Sports - An integral part of our Lives

An important aspect of our physical health. But why? Because we’ve been taught so since childhood? Or do we actually think and analyze each sport’s importance, analysis, effects and all? Or are we just randomly motivated because we saw one match on TV? Maybe P.V. Sindhu? Manika Batra? But don’t we have this sudden urge to just hit it off in the field sometimes? I do.

We know, some sports are played simply for fun, or maybe because you are rich… But then there are others like Chess and Swimming, completely based on a person’s mental and physical development.

We’ve all been hooked on a sport or two for a  pretty long time. Have you wondered why though? Because it’s fun? Because you like someone and they used to play the same sport? Or because you were solely taught from the start about it by your mentor or parents? Whatever the reason… but we can’t deny having fun in a sport or two and being engaged with it for a while.

Today, we talk about a similar situation. Importance of sports early in life, a.k.a. Why sports are important for kids.

Going with the biological explanation, it enhances strength and metabolism… Very much needed in today’s generation. Plus point, your mom’s blood pressure stays in control. What, didn’t get it? Won’t she be in a way better health not screaming at you to get your nose off that screen?

Psychologically, it helps with reducing stress and keeping you busy in a positive way, automatically avoiding stressful situations such as overthinking, which is a lot common in today’s generation. Personally, I’ve noticed people zoning out a lot. Sports can be a good distraction in that part too…

But now what we come across is another problem called “laziness”, quite a simple term but with a huge impact on the human race. Once we conquer that, another problem is the selection of what physical activity to do? We select sports, Check! We see what looks the easiest or more appealing to us… If you find it, Good! But mostly, people like me, would have some really crazy fantasy of being good at a sport, and it turns out to be something only very rich people can afford, as a “Hobby”... and that is very flabbergasting.  This is why it is important to find an activity that is affordable and accessible to all. We have to look beyond the glamorous and expensive hobbies to find something that we can do for fun and to improve our physical and mental health.

Comin next, to the effect of sports on the younger generation… Sports can develop physical and mental skills in children, teaching them discipline, teamwork, and resilience. It can also boost self-esteem and create a sense of camaraderie and community. Furthermore, it can help to reduce the risk of obesity and other health issues. And let us not forget the daily rate of deaths by these health issues, focusing on the fact that these weren’t taken care of since the younger side of a person’s life.

Not saying, throw your kids in the field… just, maybe focus on overall development. In this scenario, finding the right guidance comes in handy, knowing exactly what to do and what not to do might shape a child’s life in various different ways.

Knowing what to do will help in the positive aspect of the scenario along with a guarantee of better development. Whereas, not knowing what to do might result in some very drastic changes in a kid’s life, and not in positive ways.

So this Sports day, let’s make it our motto, to spread the importance of proper mental and physical growth in a kid’s life. And let’s do it with sports. Happy National Sports Day!
